“The Peony Pavilion” is a masterpiece by Tang Xian-Zu, the greatest playwright of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Wandering in the spring garden, the young lady Du Liniang fall into a romantic dream in which she encountered a handsome man Liu Mengmei coming to her with gentle affection. Awaking from the dream,Liniang was so lovesick and could not suffer her real confined life anymore. Elapsing like a fallen flower, Liniang returned to dust with her portrait buried by the Taihu lake. Being directed to Liniang's grave by the magic power, Liu Mengmei found Liniang's portrait and speak with it day and night. Eventually Liniang was revived by Mengmei's deep love and reunited with him.
“An Interrupted Dream”: Tired from her stroll in the garden, Du Liniang falls asleep in her chambers. Guided by the blossom fairy, she encounters a young scholar under a plum tree and has an intimate moment with him.
